About Us

Founded in 1954 by the Berger family, first in St-Estèphe before moving to Vertheuil, Tonnellerie Berger & Fils finds its historical roots in the heart of the Médoc vineyards. There, in the middle of the St Julien, St Estèphe and Pauillac appellations, the cooperage acquired its reputation as an excellent artisanal workshop, before expanding internationally and becoming a partner to the world's finest estates.

Passed down from generation to generation, in June 2014 Tonnellerie Berger & Fils integrated the TFF group, the world leader in woodworking. Today present on every continent, the cooperage continues to innovate and adapt to the demands of our customers, while preserving the requirements of a thousand years of know-how.

A savoir-faire that sublimates wood

It all starts with our raw material, the precious French oak from prestigious forests whose exemplary management is the responsibility of the ONF. Our stave mill partners then transform the logs into staves, ensuring that they meet Berger's scrupulous quality standards.

After natural air-drying in our wood yard, our team produces top-of-the-range, unadulterated, handcrafted barrels, in accordance with traditional practice.

The Berger approach

Paying particular attention to the formulation of precise and specific aging solutions to meet customer needs, we guarantee tailor-made barrels for each wine. All our customers then benefit from specialized support throughout the ageing process, enabling us to continuously improve our offer through the consolidation of long-term relationships.

Our in-depth technical research into wine-wood interactions has also enabled us to push back the boundaries of the profession by integrating innovative processes in terms of quality monitoring and oenological objectives.

Our values

Our commitment is to offer our customers the highest quality products at all times. At Berger, we are a close-knit team who work together collaboratively, in the esprit-de-corps typical of our craft. We value the transmission of know-how through apprenticeships and other forms of training, so that employees can develop their skills within the company and achieve personal fulfillment.
